Pregnancy and Chiropractic

During pregnancy, there are several physiological and endocrinological changes that take place in preparation to create a suitable environment for the baby. The average weight gain for a pregnant woman is between 20-35 pounds, which increases the pressure exerted by the baby to some organs, like stretch of the adnexa, parietal peritoneum, bladder, urethra, rectum, and pelvic structures; another change in the woman’s body is the segregation of hormones to soften the ligaments, which causes vertebral displacements and even uterine restriction, all these can cause pain and
discomfort in the mother. In fact, several scientific studies have found that more than half of women who are expecting a baby experience waist or back pain at some stage during the course of their pregnancies.
Chiropractic care is a good alternative to improve your health without using medical prescriptions that can be harmful to the baby. Some chiropractors take a specific interest in prenatal and postnatal care and seek additional training, they use gentle techniques that avoid unnecessary pressure on the abdomen area. The doctor in chiropractic can help you establish pelvic balance and vertebral alignment.
The vertebral column protects the nervous system, which is the main communication system to all systems of the body, including the reproductive system. Keeping the spine aligned helps the entire body to work more effectively.Chiropractic care during pregnancy goal is to assure the patient a comfortable pregnancy and to help facilitate an uncomplicated labor and delivery. Recent report showed results from a chiropractic and medical collaborative study indicating that 75% of pregnant patients who received chiropractic care during their pregnancies stated that they found relief from pain. Prenatal Chiropractors have cared for pregnant women for many years. However, recently, with the increased interest in natural birthing, and in an effort to avoid having a C-section, a growing number of mothers have incorporated chiropractic into their prenatal care obtaining great results. Visit your Chiropractor and check your spine, you will be grateful. Chiropractic is not intended to replace your OBGYN!
